Overwatch 2 Winter Wonderland 2022 dates, skins, and modes announced

Blizzard Entertainment’s annual holiday season event for Surveillance 2Winter Wonderland is out now, bringing back a trio of wintery arcade modes and welcoming a new set of themed cosmetics. Players can get at least one for free: Brigitte’s Ice Queen skin, which can be obtained by completing challenges in the Winter Wonderland game modes.

Overwatch 2 Winter Wonderland 2022 runs from December 13 to January 4, 2023 and includes the return of four game modes: Mei’s Snowball Offensive, Snowball Deathmatch, Yeti Hunter and Freezethaw Elimination. Veteran Overwatch players will be quite familiar with these modes, but new players will discover two game modes Mei-themed 6v6 Elimination and FFA 8-player Snowball Deathmatch; a 5v1 mode where five Meis face off against a Winston flesh-jerker; and a 4v4 freeze tag mode where players try to eliminate opponents by freezing them and keep their teammates alive by thawing them.

Players who take part in these arcade modes can unlock a set of Christmas Tree Ornament-themed sprays and the epic-level Ice Queen skin for Brigitte. To unlock Brigitte’s new skin you need to complete six other Winter Wonderland event challenges, which are:

  • Warmhearted – Thaws 15 allies in Freezethaw Elimination
  • Caught A Cold: Catch 6 snowballs in Snowball Deathmatch
  • Abominable: Win a game of Yeti Hunter as a Yeti
  • Ice Block – Block a snowball with Mei’s Ice Wall
  • Unthawed: Win a match in Freezethaw Elimination
  • Snowstorm: Win a match in Snowball Deathmatch
  • Monster Hunter: Win a match in Yeti Hunter with Mei
  • Time for Cocoa: Win a match in Mei’s Snowball Offensive

Winter Wonderland brings with it a bunch of new skins, including a Gingerbread-inspired design for Bastion, Ice Angel skin for Echo, and hu tou mao skin for Mei. Those cosmetics are all part of Surveillance 2is the in-game store and costs Overwatch Coins to acquire. Winter Wonderland skins from previous years are also available in the in-game shop.

Tuesday’s update includes a number of new skins that are not available for purchase yet, but can be viewed in-game. Many were put on display in late November as part of Surveillance 2The Season 2 trailer of , and features Medusa Widowmaker, Cyclops Roadhog, Minotaur Reinhardt, and Crustacean Wrecking Ball (who also gets a crab-walking “Scurrying” emote).

Surveillance 2 is available now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
